The Archbishop of Canterbury during in  the reign of Henry II Plantagenet was Thomas Becket. King Henry’s desire to change his relationship with the Catholic Church led to a conflict with the Archbishop of Canterbury who was his former friend. Conflict was controversial and lasted during the most of 1160s and in the end resulted in Archbishops Becket’s death in 1170.
