Conservation of mass is a principle stating that mass cannot be removed or added to the system. For example if you eat a cabbage the energy is separated from the mass and mass becomes waste, but the waste is fed on by the bacteria and the decomposers going back into the soil as nitrogen. The nitrogen then is sucked up by a plant and can become our food, which we consume repeating the process again. Hope it helped
