The EYEPIECE magnifies the image, if one is used. But it's seldom used in the big, serious telescopes.
You only need an eyepiece if the image is to be examined by a human eye. But for prime focus photography or spectroscopy, it's not needed.
Nobody ever looked through an eyepiece on the Hubble Space scope, and I doubt that the Webb has one either.
