9x + y = 2
-4x - y = -17
----------------add(since the y's are opposite, they eliminate each other)
5x = - 15
x = -15/5
x = -3

now sub in -3 for x into either one of the original equations to find y
9x + y = 2
9(-3) + y = 2
-27 + y = 2
y = 2 + 27
y = 29

solution is (-3,29)
