the first step is to combine like terms on the left side of the equal sign. You will have the following:
5+x+(-2)=-8
(x) +(5+2) =-8 (combine like terms)
x+3=-8
Step 2: Subtract 3 from both sides.
x+3- 3= -8 -3
x=-11
