specific heat is used to explain why different substances
1.) sink or float in water
2.) change temperature at different rates
3.) vaporize or condense at different temperatures
4.) melt and freeze at the same temperature

I think this is the best option but specific heat is the heat required to raise the temperature of the unit mass of a given substance by a given amount. You can find the definition on the internet.
