let the nickels be = x.     Value = 5*x = 5x  cents
Dimes = 7x,                     Value = 10*7x = 70x cents

Total value = $3.75 = 375cents

5x + 70x = 375

75x = 375

x = 375/75

x = 5

Number of Nickels = x       Number of Nickels = 5
