It is a common misconception that A.D. stands for 'after death'. In actuality, it stands for 'Anno Domini', or 'year of our lord'. Jesus is believed to have been born from 6 - 4 B.C., and to have died around 30 - 36 A.D. Of course, since this happened so long ago, this is only an estimate, and there is no way of knowing exactly when he lived.
