False, the pituitary gland does not control the metabolic rate.

What controls the metabolic rate is thyroid hormones. Although you could say that the pituitary gland controls the metabolic rate, considering that it releases the hormones into the bloodstream. The pituitary gland releases the thyroid hormones into the body, and that is what controls the metabolic rate.
